Blu-ray dvd player?

Is Blu-ray dvd player stable now, especailly after what happened with Toshiba? I have to buy a new dvd player since my old one is out of order. I think it's not a good idea to buy a ordinary dvd player today since blu-ray dvd player came out. Oponions are welcome..thanks for your help
